Postpartum Depression Screening at Makasar District Community Health Center, East Jakarta in 2025

Abstract

Postpartum depression is a common psychological disorder in mothers after childbirth and can negatively impact the mother-child relationship and infant development. Unfortunately, early detection in primary health care facilities is still rare. This study aims to screen for postpartum depression and analyze the characteristics of mothers in the Makasar District Community Health Center (Puskesmas) working area, East Jakarta, in 2025. The study used a quantitative descriptive approach with a cross-sectional design and involved 96 respondents selected using consecutive sampling techniques. The instrument used was the Indonesian version of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using frequency and chi-square tests (p<0.05). The results showed that 37 mothers (38.5%) experienced postpartum depression. There was no significant association between depression and age (p=0.151), education (p=0.072), type of delivery (p=0.708), number of children (p=0.158), occupation (p=0.527), and income (p=0.756). This study emphasizes the need for routine check-ups in primary care.
