Author Guidelines

Focus and Scope

The editorial team accepts manuscripts in English and Indonesian that are relevant to medical and health fields, including clinical medicine, community medicine, medical biology and biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, pharmacy, and other biomedical sciences. The types of articles accepted are original research, literature reviews, and case reports.

General Guidelines

Authors must ensure that all team members have approved the manuscript for publication by signing the authorship form, which also includes information on the manuscript's validity, conflicts of interest, copyright, and agreement to pay the submission fee and APC in accordance with the provisions of Jurnal Kedokteran Meditek. Authorship lists signed by all contributors must be saved as PDFs and uploaded during the submission process.

Every research report involving human subjects must include a signed informed consent agreement. It must also obtain ethical approval from a reputable research ethics committee or institutional review board.

Contributors and research funders who do not meet the criteria for authors may be listed in the "Acknowledgements" section. They must state that there are no conflicts of interest in the research project.

Review process

All submitted articles are subject to a double-blind peer review process. The Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team make the final decision based on reviewer input. To ensure alignment with the scope and general provisions of the Jurnal Kedokteran Meditek, as well as to uphold scientific quality and originality, the review process is maintained throghout, from submission to publication.

Initial Screening

At the submission stage, the editors check the completeness of the documents (authorship, research ethics, and template compliance), and screen for fabrication, plagiarism, and image manipulation. The editors also assess the manuscript's suitability for focus, scope, format, and originality. Manuscripts that do not meet the criteria will be rejected or returned to the author. After passing this stage, the Editor-in-Chief appoints an Associate Editor to manage the review process.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are sent to at least two reviewers through a double-blind review process. Reviewers assess originality, clarity, scientific validity, methodology, research ethics, and contribution to medical and biomedical science. The review process takes approximately 1–3 months, depending on the availability of reviewers and the quality of the manuscript. If necessary, the Associate Editor can open a second round of reviews.

Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and academic track record, not personal relationships. Reviewers are required to maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and adhere to review guidelines to ensure objectivity and integrity. The identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential. Review results are available to authors through OJS, and authors can submit objections to the editors via email.

The reviewer's results determine the editor's decisions. The editorial team will process the manuscript as follows:

  • The manuscript may be published with minor revisions reported to the editor, without involving the reviewers.
  • The author must make major revisions, which the reviewer will evaluate again.
  • The manuscript will be rejected and not published.

Revision Process

The author makes revisions based on the reviewer's feedback. The Associate Editor communicates with the author to ensure the revisions are successful and the manuscript meets the quality standards. Once the revisions are deemed adequate, the Associate Editor recommends accepting or rejecting the manuscript.

Final Decision & Proofreading

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision based on the Associate Editor's recommendations and reviewers' input. Once accepted, manuscripts undergo proofreading before publication.

Final manuscripts are published with formal notification to the authors. All manuscripts submitted to the editorial board are considered the property of the editorial board. Should serious matters be identified after publication, the manuscript may be withdrawn or removed from the published record:

Article retraction

Retraction of a published article may result from errors in data or analysis, instances of plagiarism, data manipulation, breaches of research ethics, discrepancies in authorship, or other matters pertaining to academic integrity.

Article removal

Articles may be removed due to copyright infringement, the presence of inaccurate information, unauthorized disclosure of confidential data, or other violations of ethical standards.

Manuscript Writing Guidelines

Manuscript of original research

Original research is a type of manuscript that presents original research results, using either a quantitative or qualitative approach. This manuscript must be written using research methods and designs that are explained in detail and systematically, so that the research process can be understood, evaluated, and used by other researchers.

The editors emphasize that original research manuscripts must have elements of novelty and clear benefits for the development of science. Therefore, each submitted research is expected to make a relevant and meaningful scientific contribution. The general structure of an original research manuscript includes:

Introduction

Outline the background and rationale for the research. State the problem, summarize relevant prior research, and identify gaps in prior research that need to be addressed. Describe the novelty of the study, highlighting its benefits and differences from previous studies. Explain how the study addresses these gaps. State the specific objectives of the study.

Methods

Explain the method in detail. Begin by describing the research design. Briefly outline the population, sample, inclusion, and exclusion criteria, and explain how the sample was calculated from the existing population. Specify the research setting, location, and timing, including the sample recruitment period and the presentation of results. If using secondary data, list the data sources. Describe the data collection instruments and state how you tested their validity and reliability where necessary. If using a questionnaire, summarize its content and explain how you tested validity and reliability. If you adapt the questionnaire into Indonesian, explain the translation and back-translation process, as well as the reliability and validity tests conducted. Describe the data analysis techniques and procedures, state the reasons for choosing these methods, and list the statistical tests used if applicable. Obtain Ethics Committee approval for research involving humans or animals.

Results

Describe the research sample, including demographic, clinical, and social characteristics, and specify exposure or potential confounders. State the number of samples and missing data for each variable if needed. Summarize relevant actions taken. Present authentic findings that align with the research objectives. Include up to five tables or figures. Ensure each table or figure is self-explanatory and avoid repeating its information in the narrative. Mention Table XX or Figure XX in the Results section immediately when they appear.

Discussion

Summarize the main results, referring to the study's objectives. The discussion contains an interpretation of the results, linking them to relevant theory, literature, and previous findings. Provide a careful overall interpretation of the results, considering the objectives, limitations, number of analyses, results from similar studies, and other relevant evidence. Discuss the limitations of the study, considering potential sources of bias or inaccuracy.

Conclusion

Conclusions and suggestions answer the research problems and objectives. Drawing conclusions, expanding on them, and creating new theories stated in an established way are more meaningful than shallow conclusions.

Manuscript of case report

A case report details a rare medical case or highlights a significant medical issue, supported by an in-depth review. It provides a clear chronological account of the case, followed by a discussion of the events and procedures. Patient consent for publication is required, and both authors and journals must maintain confidentiality.

The standard structure of a case report includes:

  • Introduction

Present the background, problem, and scope of the case. Summarize the existing literature and provide the current scientific status. Provide information about the subject being reported and state the purpose of the case report. Include a comprehensive literature search in this section.

  • Case illustration

Describe the case chronologically and in detail to establish a valid conclusion. Include the patient's relevant demographics and medical history; perform a diagnostic assessment; report symptoms and signs; outline treatment or intervention; summarize follow-up; and provide other important details. Obtain and document patient consent for participation.

  • Discussion

Review a rare or important case. Evaluate the patient's case for accuracy, validity, and uniqueness. Compare and contrast the case report with the published literature to gain new knowledge. Summarize key points from the case report. Make recommendations. Explain how the results of the case report contribute to the advancement of knowledge.

  • Conclusion

Draw conclusions from the case study using only information within its scope. Be concise. Provide evidence-based recommendations and state clear practical applications.

Manuscript of Literature Review

Editors accept systematic literature reviews that offer new insights, implications, and future research recommendations. Authors should write systematic literature reviews that are structured, transparent, and replicable. Each review must have a specific research question, a clear methodology, and a detailed literature search strategy with keywords, databases, and dates. Include study selection, data extraction, quality assessment, and data synthesis. Reviews in Jurnal Kedokteran Meditek follow:

Introduction

Briefly outline the field of study by referencing prior research, but avoid going into detailed literature reviews or summaries. Focus on how the field has developed and why the topic matters by highlighting theoretical or practical significance from scientific sources. Clearly identify main issues in the literature, such as open questions, conflicting results, or ongoing debates, to show why a literature review is needed. State the review’s purpose—whether to summarize findings, compare methods, identify trends, or suggest future research. Define the key concepts, scope, questions, and boundaries to set the discussion’s focus and demonstrate how the review contributes to science, research, practice, or policy.

Methods

Clearly state the study design (systematic review or meta-analysis) and describe it in detail. List the electronic databases, keywords, and search limiters used. Present a diagram showing the literature search flow, including initial hits, included articles, and inclusion and exclusion criteria. Specify how articles were screened, who performed the screening, and how data was extracted. Use tables to summarize author, year, country, objective, conceptual framework, sample, design, instruments, and results for each included article. Describe the quality appraisal process and the criteria for discarding articles. Explain the analysis of information from the included articles.

Results

List the search results, document the quality assessment of the included articles, and analyze the findings. State the number and characteristics of the literature used. Explain the key findings that align with the purpose of the literature search. Describe the quality of the studies included as reference sources. Present the analysis of the findings by theme and category.

 Conclusion

Draw conclusions from key findings in the literature review. Identify the gained knowledge. Provide recommendations for the application and future research.
