Publication Ethics

General Principles

Jurnal Kedokteran Meditek is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics in accordance with guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Articles involving human subjects should follow principles of research ethics as described in Declaration of Helsinki. Whereas studies involving animals should obey the International Guiding Principles for Biomedical Research as developed by the Council for International Organization of Medical Sciences (CIOMS). All authors, editors, and reviewers must adhere these ethical standards to ensure the integrity of the scientific records.

Editors’ Responsibilities

Editors must ensure that review and publication decisions are fair, unbiased, and timely, and should be guided solely by the scientific quality, originality, and relevance of the manuscript. Editors must disclose and avoid any conflict of interest regarding the publication decision. The confidentiality of submitted manuscripts must be maintained. Editors maintain authority to reject manuscripts breaching ethical or scientific standards based on COPE guidelines. When necessary, editors should publish corrections, clarifications, or retractions of manuscripts.

Reviewers’ Responsibilities

Reviewers should maintain the confidentiality of the manuscripts. Reviews should be conducted objectively and constructively, providing clear, evidence-based feedback without personal criticism. Reviewers should complete their work in a timely manner. They should notify the editors if they cannot complete the review. Reviewers should report to the editors any overlap or similarities with other published works. Reviewers should identify relevant literature not cited by the authors. They should decline to review if there is potential conflict of interest. Reviewers are prohibited from uploading unpublished manuscripts to generative AI tools or using AI to generate review content.

Authors’ Responsibilities

  • Originality and Plagiarism Prevention: Authors must certify that their work is entirely original and free from all forms of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification.
  • Exclusivity of Submission: Authors must confirm that their manuscript has not been previously published elsewhere and is not currently under consideration by any other journal. Submitting the same work to multiple publications simultaneously is considered unethical.
  • Authorship: Authorship should be limited to those who made a significant intellectual contribution to the research design, execution, or interpretation. The journal follows the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) criteria for authorship, which require all listed authors to approve the final version and take accountability for the work.
  • Ethical Oversight and Human Rights: Any research involving human subjects must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki. This includes obtaining approval from an Institutional Review Board (IRB), securing written informed consent from participants, and ensuring the privacy and dignity of all subjects. Animal studies must follow international guidelines like ARRIVE or CIOMS.
  • Transparency and Disclosure of Conflicts: Authors are required to disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest that could influence their findings. This includes identifying all sources of funding and, in modern practice, declaring any use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools during the creation of the manuscript.
  • Data Integrity and Reproducibility: Authors have a duty to report data accurately and honestly. They are encouraged to provide raw data when required.
  • Licensing and Post-Publication Corrections: Authors must agree to publish their work under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0), allowing for free distribution while ensuring proper credit. If an author discovers a significant error after publication, they are obligated to immediately notify the editor to facilitate a formal correction or retraction.

Journal Policy on Plagiarism

The journal does not tolerate all forms of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, data fabrication, and redundant or "salami" publication. To ensure research integrity, all submitted manuscripts are rigorously screened using plagiarism-detection software. The definition of misconduct encompasses direct copying without citation, improper paraphrasing, and the unauthorized use of data or text from previous works. Editors will immediately reject submissions if significant overlaps are identified. If plagiarism is identified post-publication, the journal follows COPE guidelines for Retractions and corrections of the article. To avoid these things, authors are responsible for certifying the originality of their work and ensuring that all sources used in the creation of their manuscript are properly acknowledged and cited.

Integrity and Complaint Handling

The journal is committed to maintaining high standards of research integrity by adhering to COPE guidelines. All ethical complaints regarding allegations of misconduct, including data fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism will be handled according to COPE.
